Indonesian president visits China to boost bilateral trades

After Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono's two-day visit to Shanghai, the government expects to attract more investment from the world's second largest economy, local media quoted Presidential Spokesman Teuku Faizasyah as saying on Monday.
The president is scheduled to be in Shanghai on Monday and Tuesday for promoting trade relations between the two nations, Antara news agency on Monday quoted the statement as saying.
"The meeting with the Chinese businessmen in Shanghai is expected to boost Chinese investment in Indonesia and expand the market for Indonesian's products," Teuku Faizasyah said on Saturday.
"The visit coincides with the 60th anniversary of bilateral relations between Indonesia and China, which have recently been strengthened by strategic partnership," Yudhoyono was quoted as saying.
The president, joined by first lady Ani Yudhoyono, will be attending the Shanghai World Expo 2010, where they will appear at the Indonesian pavilion.
During his stay in Shanghai, the president will also deliver a keynote address at a business forum that will be attended by some 300 leading businessmen from China and Indonesia.
Yudhoyono will witness the signing of several agreements between Indonesian and Chinese businesses to promote cooperation in mining, energy, agricultural and creative sectors, he said.
After the China visit, Yudhoyono will travel to Hanoi, capital of Vietnam for the 17th ASEAN summit, which runs from Wednesday to Sunday.
In January this year, China and ASEAN entered into a free-trade agreement, which is considered a major boon to economic activity between Southeast Asia and its neighbor.
Last week, business leaders from China and ASEAN met in the seventh annual China-ASEAN Trade Expo in Nanning, the capital city of China's Guangxi autonomous region.
