The Finnish city of Oulu presented itself as one of the world's leading innovation centers for science, education and culture during a promotion event at the Finland Pavilion on Sep 14, 2010.
The event called "Oulu Inspires" was intended to attract Chinese investors and tourists and to boost cooperation with Chinese companies and institutions in the fields of education, environment, tourism and construction.
Situated in northern Finland, Oulu is one of the fastest growing cities in northern Europe. Despite its 400-year history, Oulu is considered a young, creative and entrepreneurial city which is home to a large number of highly-educated people.
The Oulu delegation led by its vice mayor, Timo Kenakkala, has another task – establishing a sister-city relationship with Hangzhou, capital of Zhejiang Province. It will become the first sister city for Hangzhou in the Nordic countries.
