Pu Yue Ren Jia 浦月人家蘇杭食府
Makes ordinary dishes extraordinary. Try the stir-fried green beans and noodles.
When a restaurant manages to make a mundane starter like cold cucumber and garlic (RMB 8) taste new and exciting, it's possible that it will exceed all your culinary expectations. Pu Yue Ren Jia managed to do just that. Even the stir-fried green beans (RMB 15) had more attitude and style than usual. The noodles—the house specialty—tasted delicious. They come in a set broth (RMB 15) with your sauce of choice. Choose the pork in brown sauce (RMB 15) and the eight treasures in spicy sauce (RMB 12), which includes tofu, shrimp, pork and cashews. Both are tasty but the pork is definately the saucy star. Pu Yue Ren Jia's floor and marble-topped tables are as shiny as a debutante's patent leather shoe and the waitstaff are primped and preened—partly because the restaurant is new but also because the management is great (and possibly obsessive-compulsive).
