Anping Bridge (安平橋) spans the bay between Anhai County and Shuitou County, Fujian Province, and is the largest ancient stone beam bridge in China. It is also known as "Five Li Bridge" because of its length of 2255 meters, approximately five li (a li is about 500 meters). The bridge was first built in the eighth year of the Shaoxing reign in Southern Song Dynasty (1138) and the contruction lasted for 14 years.
Anping Bridge consists of 361 spans of granite beams resting on top of stone piers, the largest beam weighing 25 tons. The width of the bridge varies from 3 to 3.8 meters (9.8 to 12.5 ft). It has five pavilions for travelers to rest. Rails on two sides of the bridge are carved with a variety of images such as lions and toads.
