"Full River Red," a period film by acclaimed Chinese director Zhang Yimou, features a stellar cast, including comedian megastar Shen Teng, popular young actor Jackson Yee, and veterans Zhang Yi and Lei Jiayin. Inspired by historical events and legends surrounding a 12th-century general, the film blends elements from different genres. The title, "Full River Red," is derived from the most famous poem by Yue Fei, a military general during the Southern Song dynasty (1127-1279), known for his patriotism and loyalty. However, he was framed and executed by the powerful official Qin Hui. The plot unfolds four years after Yue's death, centering on a mysterious murder at Qin Hui's residence.
Grossing more than 4.54 billion yuan, the film is China's highest-grossing film of the year, solidifying Zhang's success and igniting cultural dialogues.
