Located in the center of Beijing, the Forbidden City served as the imperial palace of the Ming and Qing dynasties (1368-1911). Constructed between 1406 and 1420, it witnessed the enthronement of 14 Ming and 10 Qing emperors. The Imperial Palace of the Qing Dynasty in Shenyang was built between 1625–1626 and 1783, before being used as the secondary capital and temporary residence of the imperial family until 1911.
