# Zhu Yaming
On Aug. 5, China's Zhu Yaming achieved a personal best of 17.57 m in the men's triple jump to claim silver at the Tokyo Olympics.
Born in 1994, the veteran, yet first-time Olympian, did not start training professionally until 2015 at the age of 21 when he joined the Liaoning provincial team. Before that, he was a college student and trained on his own, inspired by watching sport on television.
For him, one of the great benefits of winning an Olympic silver medal is that he will now be invited to Diamond League athletics meetings, allowing him to compete among the best athletes more frequently.
