On Aug. 27, Forbes China released its Top 100 Celebrity List for 2020. The 19-year-old singer-actor Jackson Yee (Yi Yangqianxi) topped the list, followed by Xu Zheng and Zhou Dongyu ranking second and third respectively.
Jay Chou, Zhang Yixing, Yang Mi, Zhao Liying, Kris Wu (Wu Yifan), Wang Yibo and Karry Wang (Wang Junkai) rounded out the top 10.
The list selected from among Chinese actors, singers, presenters, directors, screenwriters, writers, models, athletes, internet celebrities and other celebs (excluding business personages of note) who have stood out in their respective fields from July 1, 2019 to June 30, 2020. The candidates were then assessed and ranked in multiple dimensions such as commercial value and work influence.
Among the 100 celebrities, there were 88 from the Chinese mainland and 12 from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, showing little change from the previous year.
In regard to age distribution, nearly half (43) of the 100 are 30 and under. The number of those born in the present century rose from three last year to six this year, with the top winner Jackson Yee born in 2000. Last year, Jackson was ranked eighth on the Forbes China Celebrity 100 List, becoming the first born after 2000 to debut on the list.
In terms of gender distribution, there are almost twice as many males (66) as females (34) on the list, basically the same with the previous year with the male to female proportion being 65:35.
The 2020 list has 26 "new faces," with 13 in their twenties, 11 born in the 70s and 80s, and two senior celebrities of the older generation.
The Forbes China Celebrity List was first compiled and published by the financial magazine Forbes in 2004.
