Beijing tops the list of cities on the Chinese mainland with the highest Travel Property Index (TPI) in the second quarter of 2020, according to a recent report jointly released by the China Tourism Academy (CTA) and Mafengwo, a popular travel website in China.
The index, launched by the CTA in March, evaluates online content related to each tourism destination based on five indicators: amount, impressions, engagement, public praise, and marketability.
The first-of-its-kind report named Shanghai and Chengdu of Sichuan province in second and third place. Among the top 10 cities, Hulun Buir in north China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region saw the largest increase in TPI compared with an earlier figure. The city is expected to enter a busy travel period in the third quarter as it is an excellent place to escape the summer heat.
Amidst the COVID-19 outbreak, China's tourism industry is fast-tracking steps to go digital. Tourists tend to acquire information from various forms of online content, such as travel stories, short videos and live streaming. More and more interaction and transactions in the industry occur via e-commerce platforms.
Here is the list of the top 10 cities on the Chinese mainland with the highest TPI from April to June, 2020.
