The academic thinktank, Globalization and World Cities Research Network, or GaWC, has released its latest report classifying world cities in 2018.
Based on the office networks of 175 advanced producer service firms in 707 cities, the evaluation system by GaWC classified cities into four groups, Alpha, Beta,Gamma, and Sufficiency. Every group is subdivided into different levels including Alpha++, Alpha+, Alpha, Alpha-, Beta+, Beta, Beta-, Gamma+, Gamma, Gamma-, High Sufficiency and Sufficiency.
Six Chinese cities were included in the Alpha group and 13 in the Beta group. In particular, Shenzhen, Chengdu, Hangzhou, Tianjin, Nanjing and Wuhan rose fast up the latest world city ranking.
Three Chinese cities - Hong Kong, Beijing and Shanghai - ranked among the top ten this year.
