Brand Finance, a branded business valuation consultancy, recently released its report ranking the top 50 retail brands in the world in 2018.
The values of the brands in Brand Finance's league tables were calculated using the Royalty Relief approach – a brand valuation method compliant with the industry standards set in ISO 10668.
With a huge growth in Internet shopping headed by Amazon, e-commerce brands are booming, creating growing pressure for offline brands.
Some big offline brands such as Costco, Macy's, CVS Health and Walgreens face challenging times. Some have made efforts to adapt to the changing marketplace. Home Depot, for example, has recovered by focusing on customer experiences, improving supply chain efficiency, and investing heavily in its e-commerce platform.
The value of American retail brands now totals US$410.3 billion making up 66 percent of the 50 that were chosen for evaluation; China has a 12.7 percent share, Germany 4.9 percent.
