Tsinghua University recently released the China's Artificial Intelligence (AI) Development Report 2018, which evaluates the country's AI development measured according to the relative output, talent, market application, strategies, policies and social cognition in a global context.
The size of China's AI market reached 23.7 billion yuan (US$3.5 billion) in 2017, up 67 percent year-on-year, of which, the market value of computer vision was the highest.
By June 2018, the number of AI enterprises in China had reached 1,011 (excluding Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Macao Special Administrative Region, and Taiwan Province), with Beijing, the country's capital, home to the largest number of AI enterprises.
China's investment and financing in the AI industry accounted for 60 percent of the world's total, measured from 2013 to the first quarter of 2018.
The report also notes that China's core AI technology is relatively weak and the country suffers from a shortage of top AI talent.
