As the internet and smart phones have taken over the role of booking trips, hotels and tickets for travelers, which cities in China are pioneers?
Recently, the China Tourism Academy and Ctrip, a leading provider of travel services in China, jointly released a report on intelligent tourism, ranking over 70 cities around the country based on each city's number of people booking online tourism products and their level of consumption.
The statistics came from over 250 million Ctrip users and more than 10,000 travel agencies. The number, proportion and growth of local travel agencies and tourist sites which joined Ctrip were also taken into account.
Three metropolises – Shanghai, Beijing and Guangzhou – are the most developed places with regards to intelligent tourism, but the business in second-and-third-tier cities is also booming with great potential.
The following are the top 10 Chinese cities with "internet plus tourism."
