The Internet and the smart phone provide great convenience for people's lives and work. However, they require you to create – and remember - various passwords for online stores, email accounts, bank accounts, social media and entertainment sites.
It's a tricky issue how to choose a good password: more complex is better for security, but simpler is easier to remember. Many people understand the importance of password security, but hate to have to try and remember complex ones that are forgotten and have to be changed; hence, they often opt for simpler ones.
Splash Data, a leading online provider of security applications and services, has announced its latest annual list of the 25 most common passwords found on the Internet, which can easily be hacked or stolen, as part of an effort to encourage the adoption of stronger passwords.
"123456" and "password" continue to be the top two, as they have been since the first list in 2011. Others such as birthdays, "football," "login," "monkey," passwords comprised of numbers only, and a sequence on a standard keyboard like "qwerty" are also on the list.
