Location: New York, United States
Established in 1762
The Fraunces Tavern played a prominent role in shaping the landscape of the United States. It used to act as a meeting place for the Sons of Liberty. During the American Revolution, General George Washington lived in this building, made it his formal headquarters, negotiated with the British, and eventually formed the early constructs of the U.S. government. Today, the tavern is a whiskey bar and restaurant, which serves traditional American food from Manhattan’s South Street Seaport.
