For the first time, Li Ka-shing, once the richest Chinese, was overtaken this year according to the 2015 Global Chinese Rich List released Wednesday by the Hurun Research Institute.
The Hurun Research Institute's ranking of the world's richest Chinese is an attempt to track the business success of Chinese people worldwide.
Keeping the cut-off at around 2 billion yuan, or 320 million U.S. dollars, the list includes 1,577 Chinese from all over the world.
The total wealth of these 1,577 individuals amounts to roughly US$2.1 trillion, which is equivalent to Russia's GDP, or 1.5 times that of South Korea, according to the Hurun Research Institute.
