Gartner, an information technology research and advisory company, recently released a report on mobile phone and smartphone sales.
Worldwide mobile phone sales to end users totaled nearly 1.9 billion units in 2014, a 3.9 percent increase over the same period in 2013. Among these, sales of smartphones to end users totaled 1.2 billion units, up 28.4 percent from 2013. Smartphone sales represented two-thirds of global mobile phone sales.
All regions recorded growth of mobile phone sales in 2014, except Japan and Western Europe, which recorded declines of 2.8 percent and 9.1 percent, respectively.
