Close to the city center, Xuanwu Lake is China's largest imperial lake and one of the three famous lakes in southern China -- the other two are Xihu Lake in Hangzhou and Nanhu Lake in Jiaxing, Zhejiang Province. Bearing the ancient name Sangbo, the lake has a history of over 1,500 years.
Covering an area of 472 hectares, the lake carries five isles: Huan Isle, Yingzhou Isle, Liangzhou Isle, Cuizhou Isle and Lingzhou Isle, which are all interlinked by bridges. It is good for visitors to take a walk, jog, ride bicycles and simply enjoy the scenery of the different seasons across the park.
