Niagara Falls |
Niagara Falls, which consists of three waterfalls between Canada and the United States, are famous for their beauty and for the valuable hydroelectric power they provide, attracting millions of visitors every year. However, Niagara Falls is also a top "suicide attraction" in the United States, second only to the Golden Gate Bridge. The historian Paul Gromosiak estimated that there were 2780 recorded suicide cases between 1856 and 1995. The suicides typically increased from spring to summer and reached a peak in September. Because of the frequent suicides, a flourishing body recovery industry has developed in the area.
