SS President Coolidge, Vanuatu
The SS President Coolidge was a U.S. luxury ocean liner that was completed in 1931. From December 1941 to October 1942, she was commandeered by the U.S. Navy and fitted out as a naval ship. Unfortunately, she was sunk by one of America's own mine between the islands of Espiritu Santo and Tutuba on Oct. 26, 1942. The ship now sleeps quietly just off the shore, almost fully intact and containing cannons, jeeps, trucks and a pretty mosaic fountain. The wreck is protected by law, and has been designated – along with the surrounding seabed – as a marine reserve.
Location: 50 meters off the shore of Vanuatu
Depth: 30 meters.
