On July 30, 1982, a military delegation led by a land force commander-in-chief of an African country was invited to visit China. They took the Vickers Viscount special plane to Beijing to attend commemoration activities on August 1, the memorial day for the foundation of the People's Liberation Army of the People's Republic of China.
The plane was hijacked by a Chinese security department official, asking the pilot to fly the plane to Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport. The pilot and other crew members finally subdued the hijacker and no one on the plane was hurt.
