This is the 15th annual edition of the Hurun rich list since initially it was first in 1999. This is the sixth time that the total number of China's wealthiest individuals reached 1000.
The average wealth of entrepreneurs on the list grew by 18.5 percent, to 6.4 billion yuan, despite the 1.7 percent drop on the Shanghai Stock Exchange index. Moreover, the minimum financial requirement for those featuring in the top 50 is now 18 billion yuan, the highest in the list's history and 10 times that of one decade ago.
"It created a new record mainly because of the recovery of real estate and the rapid development of IT," Rupert Hoogewerf, Hurun Report CEO and chief researcher said.
