Haskell Indian Nations University (HINU), with a tuition fee of US$182 (1116 yuan), remained the cheapest public university of the 4-year or above variety in the U.S. for the 2011-12 academic year, according to the U.S. Department of Education.
HINU was followed by Dine College and Colorado Mountain College, which came in second and third place with tuition fees of US$805 (4,938 yuan) and US$1,770 (10,858 yuan), respectively.
The U.S. Department of Education statistics showed that the average tuition fee at 4-year or above public universities across the U.S. was US$7,135 for the past academic year, an increase of over 6.9 percent from 2010-11.
This year's College Affordability and Transparency Lists, published in June 2013, highlighted both public and private institutions with the lowest tuitions and net prices, as well as those schools where prices are rising the fastest.
