Mou's manor, home of an eminent northern landlord in Qixia City, is a great place to observe the lifestyle of a noble family.
Founded during the reign of the Yongzheng emperor during the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911), the manor achieved its current scale in 1935. It is the best-preserved existing landlord manor in China and the largest of its kind in Northern China.
In its prime, the family owned more than 5,500 rooms, some 4,000 hectares of farmland and 8,000 hectares of mountains. It well combines China's historical culture, architectural culture and folk culture. During its distinguished Northern features, it has been described as "a living fossil of the century-old manor."
