The University of Nottingham is a public research university based in Nottingham, England. Although it received its royal charter in 1948, the university has been in existence since 1881.
Nottingham received more than 49,000 applications for its 5,500 enrollment quota in 2011, making it the third most popular university in the country. It has been described by Times as a "prime alternative to Oxbridge." It is particularly strong in traditional courses such as law, economics and medicine. In the past decade, Nottingham has produced two Nobel laureates in the fields of medicine and economics.
With the recent opening of further campuses in Ningbo, China and Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, the university has been described by Times as Britain's "only truly global university."
