Qinghai University for Nationalities is located in Xining, the capital city of Qinghai Province. Founded in 1949, the university is the earliest institution of higher learning in Qinghai, as well as one of the earliest universities for ethnic minorities established after the founding of the People's Republic of China. Studying there allows students to get closer looks at the colorful ethnic cultures in this dreamed-of wonderland with fantastic natural scenery. Presently, it houses more than 12,000 Chinese students of 39 ethnic minority groups, including the Han, the Tibetan, the Hui, and the Tu, as well 187 international students.
