Situated in Zhongwei City, Shapotou is a national 5A-level tourist attraction sitting on the north bank of the Yellow River where it crosses the southeastern border of the Tengger Desert. Sunset on the Yellow River and sunrise in the desert are particularly memorable.
The sand-themed wonderland boasts one of the five most scenic deserts in China. The rough landscape, limpid lakes as well as vast grasslands constitute an amazing mixture of nature's beauty.
The park offers plenty of activities. Sliding from the top of a sand dune on a sand board is a tourist favorite. In addition, visitors can hire a sheepskin raft and float along the Yellow River to observe all the fascinating sceneries along the waterway.
