Here, we introduce three types of large fishes, including the King of Herrings, Arapaima and the Northern Snakehead.
The king of herrings or giant oarfish, also known as Regalecus glesne, is a very rare big fish. Its body can reach a length of 17 meters and it is world's largest bony fish in the Guinness Book of World Records. As it lives in the oceans at depths of between 300 and 1,000 meters, it is rarely seen. But it can be found in the shallow waters dead or dying. That's the reason that many sailors used to think they were plesiosaurus.
Arapaima gigas, one of the largest freshwater fishes in the world, mainly lives in South American. It can reach length of 2 to 6 meters and weight can exceed 100 kg. As it is a very old type fish, it is called living fossil by biologists. However, due to their delicious meat, they are poached excessively by humans.
Compared with Arapaima gigas, the Northern snakehead (Channa argus) in South Asia is known for its vicious behavior. They will attack anyone who may threat to their lives, including humans.
