Established in February 1995, BYD is a key hi-tech private enterprise in China specializing in IT, automobile and new energy, with integrated research, development, manufacturing and sales. The company was listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange in July 2002.
BYD's employees and industrial parks increased drastically during the BYD's rapid development. BYD developed from a staff of 20 in 1995 to more than 150,000 employees in 2009, with 10 industrial parks across China, including sites in Guangdong, Beijing, Shaanxi, Shanghai and Changsha. It also has offices in the United States, Europe, Japan, South Korea, India, Taiwan and Hong Kong.
