Chen Xiaoxu (Oct. 29, 1965-May 13, 2007) was a famous Chinese actress, and a successful business woman and billionaire in advertising. Though she only played in two TV series in her short life, she is far more famous than many actors who have frequent and high exposure. In 1987, Chen became a house-hold name at home and abroad because of her heart-wrenching portrayal of the leading role Lin Daiyu, a talented, graceful, sensitive and melancholy beauty in the CCTV's drama series A Dream of Red Mansions, based on one of the four great classical novels of Chinese literature.
In the same year, Chen played in another TV series called Family, Spring and Autumn, but found that she couldn't make any breakthrough in acting. Her acting career peak began with but also ended with A Dream of Red Mansions. She died of breast cancer in Shenzhen on May 13, 2007. Her play A Dream of Red Mansions has been re-aired more than 800 times.
