Founded in 2010, Diaspora was established by four New York University students. It released its code and opened up to private alpha invitees and it will open up to more users in 2011.
Since early 2010, Facebook faced grave doubts because of its default privacy settings. So one of the selling points of Diaspora is its the privacy settings. Diaspora aims to use this privacy respect platform to compete with Facebook.
However, it still has many security flaws in its first part of code in September 2010. Many people doubt whether they can realize their goals or not. Let's wait and see!
