Another drama based on a true story, here Julia Roberts plays the eponymous lead character who gets a job as a small town legal secretary who launches a case against a major electrics company accused of poisoning a town's water supply.
As an unemployed, single mother Roberts convincingly revokes the glamour of a Hollywood star, demonstrates the enormous talent I, for one, was not convinced she actually had and is thoroughly deserving of her Academy Award. With a lead character who is as selfless as she is likeable, this film also makes the list for it's ability to inspire, demonstrating what one person actually can achieve if they put their all into it.
