Emperor Qianlong (1711-1799) is one of the most famous emperors in Chinese history. His reign marked the peak of feudalism in China. During his early years of reign, he saw the continuity of an era of prosperity.
Qianlong was a grandson of the Emperor Kangxi and the fourth Emperor of the Qing Dynasty. He lived a long life and ruled for 60 years. After that, he abdicated to his favor son in order to not reign longer than his grandfather for filial consideration.
Qianlong was pragmatic in state administration. He attached great importance to agriculture and stopped raising taxes for some years. He dealt with the relationship between Man, Han and other ethnic groups in a skillful way.
Moreover, Qianlong was a talented poet and calligrapher. He wrote five albums of poetry and three collections of essays. He also was a well-known cultural relic collector fond of jade carving, tooth carving, bamboo and wood carving, lacquer art, enamel and porcelain art.
