Aston Villa defender Pau Torres has been forced to drop out of the Spain squad for the forthcoming UEFA Nations League matches against Denmark and Switzerland, the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) has confirmed.
Torres travelled to Spain on Tuesday carrying a muscle injury that he picked up in his club's game against Liverpool at the weekend. He has been sent back to his club for treatment after tests by the Spanish team doctors, who concluded he would not shake off his problem in time to play in Friday's match away to Denmark and Monday's home game against Switzerland.
"The defender arrived with a muscle problem. He is leaving the squad to avoid any risk of injury," confirmed a post by the RFEF on social media.
Spain coach Luis de la Fuente may now consider calling up FC Barcelona defender, Inigo Martinez, who has been in excellent form this season.
