The Zhejiang Lions grabbed a 100-98 win over the Shenzhen Aviators in overtime, while the Liaoning Flying Leopards cruised past the Jilin Northeast Tigers 106-76 as Liaoning picked up its fifth consecutive win in the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) League on Wednesday.
Zhejiang who played at home started with a 10-5 lead, with Cameron Oliver contributing eight points alone, while Jared Sullinger's two fouls within four minutes made Shenzhen's situation even worse.
Zhejiang established a 29-20 lead in the first quarter and continued to take a firm grip on the game to set up a 47-40 lead at halftime.
Shenzhen tried to cut the deficit and successfully outscored Zhejiang in the final quarter, while the latter intensified their offensive and finally leveled the score, forcing Shenzhen into overtime.
With five seconds left in overtime, Sun Minghui cut through the defense and made a jump shot to kill the game, giving Shenzhen the first loss of the season.
In another game, defending champion Liaoning started strong and established a 33-18 lead in the first quarter. Jilin started to sneak up on Liaoning in the second quarter but failed to cut the deficit at halftime while the latter widened the gap to 30 points at the end of the game, making its winning record intact in five games.
Also on Wednesday, the Tianjin Pioneers beat the Guangdong Southern Tigers 112-105, the Fujian Sturgeons defeated the Jiangsu Dragons 110-89, and the Beijing Royal Fighters overpowered the Guangzhou Loong Lions 117-104.
