Russia outgunned New Zealand 78-56 during Monday night's last-16 match of the 2010 World Basketball Championships.
The Russians will proceed to the quarter-finals to take on the undefeated American team, which crushed Angola 121-66 earlier Monday.
New Zealand had started out strong ending the first quarter ahead 15-13, but Russia began to pick up momentum in the second quarter.
With neither team scoring much, Russia lead New Zealand 31-27 by the end of the first half.
But a 13-0 run by Russia during the third quarter put the team in the lead and paved the way for a 22-point victory.
New Zealand's star player Kirk Penney was the top scorer of the game with 21 points, while Russia's Andrey Vorontsevich topped Russia with 18 points and 11 rebounds.
