Maria Riesch of Germany won the gold medal of the women's slalom Friday at the Whistler Creekside park at the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics.
Riesch finished the two runs with a time of one minute and 42.89 seconds to claim the title. This is her second gold medal and the ninth of her country at the Games.
Marlies Schild of Austria completed the runs 0.43 seconds slower than the champion to win the silver medal.
"I am really happy with the silver. Of course I hoped for gold when I was in the finish and only one girl was left at the start," said Schild.
Sarka Zahrobsk of the Czech Republic won the bronze medal with a time of 1 minute and 43.90 seconds.
Riesch led the first run at 50.75 seconds, her sister Susanne finished the first run just 0.71 seconds behind in fourth position at 51.46 but failed to finish the second run.
American favourite Lindsey Vonn skied out after only a few gates in the first run. This is her third crash during the Games, but she already took a gold medal in downhill and a bronze at super-G.
She took part in Friday's slalom with a broken pinkie finger suffered in a crash on Wednesday during the first run of the giant slalom.
China's Xia Lina didn't finish her second run.
