How to give green a fair go

"I'm not a designer myself, but I wanted a challenge," says Poon. "Since I'm in China and many clothes are made in China, I thought why don't I just do it myself?"

Wobabybasics clothes are made entirely in China since Poon also wanted to prove that Chinese products are of high quality.

"The idea was to make layette baby items that are practical, stylish, low-maintenance, durable and (often) multi-functional in order to reduce consumer consumption," says Poon.

The common belief is that environmentally friendly products are more expensive but Poon considers that a misconception. For example, her baby shirts, priced about 80 yuan (US$11.45) each, are much cheaper than many designer brands.

Poon says that such products are expensive because of the low demands. "They could be much cheaper if we could produce them in large quantities."

An organic farmer's market, barbecue and drinks will also be available at Saturday's fair.

Date: April 26, 10am-4pm

Venue: URBN Hotel courtyard, 183 Jiaozhou Rd

Admission: Free
