Rural students fall to under 30% at CAU
農(nóng)大農(nóng)村新生不足三成

Rural students view going to university as an opportunity to get out of the countryside.

The percentage of new students at China Agricultural University who are from rural areas have dropped to under 30 percent for the first time, Beijing News reported.

據(jù)《新京報(bào)》報(bào)道，中國(guó)農(nóng)業(yè)大學(xué)今年大一新生中，農(nóng)村戶(hù)籍生源十年來(lái)首次跌破三成。

The number has been above 30 percent since 2002, said Zhou Xufeng, head of CAU's admissions office. But for the coming school year, rural students account for 28 percent of new enrollers.

農(nóng)大招辦主任周旭峰表示，2002年至2010年，該校本科新生中農(nóng)村戶(hù)籍學(xué)生的比例一直穩(wěn)定在30%以上。而今年農(nóng)村戶(hù)籍學(xué)生比例只有28%。

Zhou said that rural students may not be interested in CAU because they view going to university as an opportunity to get out of the countryside, a goal that an education in agriculture may impede.
