Lesson Fifty-eight Hot pot
Hot pot is a famous Chinese dish in which ingredients are cooked by the diners themselves in a simmering pot of broth placed on the table. Typically the ingredients include thinly-sliced meat and vegetables and vary from region to region. The food is usually served with range of dipping sauces. In China it is a favorite winter dish. |
mài kè: w? men di?n n? zh?ng guō dǐ ne? cài dān shàng shuō y?u qīng tāng, má là hé yuān yāng sān zh?ng guō dǐ.
麥克：我們點(diǎn)哪種鍋底呢？菜單上說有清湯、麻辣和鴛鴦三種鍋底。
Mike: What kind of broth shall we order? There are three choices on the menu: plain, spicy, or "Yuanyang" style.
lì li: nǐ xǐ huan chī là ma?
麗麗：你喜歡吃辣嗎？
Lili: Do you like spicy food?
mài kè: ò bù, w? bù néng chī là de.
麥克：哦不，我不能吃辣的。
Mike: Oh no, I can't eat spicy things.
lì li: nà w? men di?n yī gè yuān yāng de guō dǐ ba.
麗麗：那我們點(diǎn)一個(gè)鴛鴦的鍋底吧。
Lili: Then let's order the Yuanyang broth.
mài kè: yuān yāng guō dǐ shì shén me yì si?
麥克：鴛鴦鍋底是什么意思？
Mike: What does that mean?
lì li: jiù shì yī gè guō lǐ y?u yuán wèi hé là wèi li?ng zh?ng guō dǐ, nǐ k? yǐ rèn yì xu?n zé.
麗麗：就是一個(gè)鍋里有原味和辣味兩種鍋底，你可以任意選擇。
Lili: It means you get both the plain and spicy broths in one pot. You can choose either one.
mài kè: zhēn y?u yì si!
麥克：真有意思！
Mike: That's interesting!
lì li: tiáo liào y? y?u h?o jǐ zhōng. y?u má jiàng, h?i xiān hé xiāng yóu, nǐ xǐ huan n? yī gè?
麗麗：調(diào)料也有好幾種。有麻醬、海鮮和香油，你喜歡哪一個(gè)？
Lili: There are quite a few kinds of dipping sauces. Which one would you prefer, sesame paste, seafood, or sesame oil?
mài kè: h?i xiān de tīng shàng qù bú cuò.
麥克：海鮮的聽上去不錯(cuò)。
Mike: The seafood sauce sounds nice.
lì li: h?o, nà w? men yào li?ng w?n h?i xiān de. zài yào yī pán niú ròu, yī pán yáng ròu. nǐ xǐ huan shén me shū cài ne?
麗麗：好，那我們要兩碗海鮮的。再要一盤牛肉，一盤羊肉。你喜歡什么蔬菜呢？
Lili: Great. Let's have two bowls of seafood sauce, a plate of beef and a plate of lamb. What kind of vegetables do you like?
mài kè: w? yào bái cài ba.
麥克：我要白菜吧。
Mike: I'd like some Chinese cabbage.
lì li: nǐ hái xi?ng cháng cháng mó gu hé dòu fu ma?
麗麗：你還想嘗嘗蘑菇和豆腐嗎？
Lili: Would you like to try some mushrooms and Tofu as well?
mài kè: h?o ya!
麥克：好呀！
Mike: Sure!
