According to The Nation's website, Sondhi, a core leader of People's Alliance for Democracy (PAD), was riding on his way to his newspaper and television office in Banglampoo at about 5:00 a.m. when a group of armed men shot at his vehicle from a pickup. The pickup then sped away.

The bullets hit Sonthi's arm while his driver, Adul Daengpradub, was severely injured. Both were rushed to a hospital nearby. Latest information showed that Adul is in stable condition after urgent surgery.

Police at the attack scene found Sondhi's car riddled with bullets. Police collected about 100 cartridges of AK-16.

PAD spokesman Panthep Puapongpan condemned those who were hired to kill Sondhi. He also told the yellow-shirt supporters not to worry because Sondhi is safe.

The yellow-shirted PAD supporters frequently held protests during the administrations of Thaksin Shinawatra, Samak Sundaravej and Somchai Wongsawat. They stopped protesting after Abhisit Vejjajiva of the Democrat Party, was elected Thai prime minister in December, 2008.
