The German and Brazilian leaders on Thursday called on countries to make "robust progress" at the upcoming Copenhagen climate change summit.

Both leaders agreed that no dream agreement will be reached in Copenhagen, but expressed hope that "robust progress" could be made in fighting climate change during the summit.

"I am sure that in Copenhagen we will not reach the agreement that we dreamed of, but I am sure that we will make some important progress," Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula told a joint news conference with German Chancellor Angela Merkel.

"I will do my best in Copenhagen to push for significant progress, even if it won't be ideal," Merkel added.

Merkel also showed her support for European Union countries to help the big emerging economies do their part to achieve the 2 degrees goal.

"For the developing and emerging countries to reach the goal, we have to help them financially and technologically, and Germany and the European Union are ready for that," Merkel said.
