Deputy general manager, executive deputy general manager, and deputy secretary of Leading Party Members' Group, of China Petrochemical Corp. in 1983-1990; general manager and Leading Party Members Group secretary of China Petrochemical Corp. in 1990-1998.

Minister in charge and secretary of the Leading Party Members' group of the State Economic and Trade Commission in March 1998-2001.

Member of the 15th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC).

Standing Committee member of the 9th NPC since 2001.
