Jia Qinglin, born in March 1940, is a native of Botou, Hebei Province. He joined the Communist Party of China (CPC) in December 1959 and began a career in October 1962. He received university education and has a technical title of senior engineer.
His previous posts include deputy secretary of the Chinese Communist Youth League Committee of the Bureau of Systematic Equipment, technician of Policy Research Office and head of the Product Administration under the First Ministry of Machine-Building; general manager of China National Machinery and Equipment Import and Export Corporation; director and secretary of the CPC Committee of Taiyuan Heavy Machinery Plant; a member of the Standing Committee, deputy secretary and concurrently head of the Organization Department, president of the Party School, and secretary of CPC Fujian Provincial Committee; acting governor and governor of Fujian Province; chairman of the Standing Committee of Fujian Provincial People's Congress; deputy secretary of CPC Beijing Municipal Committee, vice-mayor, acting mayor, and mayor of Beijing, and secretary of the CPC Beijing Municipal Committee.
He was a member of the 14th CPC Central Committee and is a member of Political Bureau of the 15th CPC Central Committee. He was a deputy to the 8th National People?s Congress and is also a deputy to its 9th congress.
