The anti-Fascist war between the 1930s and 1940s was the first just war of a global scale in human history. It ended in the Axis' unconditional surrender in 1945, 60 years ago. Over 2 billion people in Europe, Asia, Africa and Oceania (exceeding four-fifths of the world population at that time) were involved in the war. Crimes Against Humanity Chinese children killed by Japanese soldiers with poisonous gas in 1942 at Beitan Village, Dingxian County, Hebei Province. The parents of the brothers shown in the photo were killed by the enemy and their house torched. Liu Yaomei, chairwoman of the Women's National Salvation Association at Luoyu Village Fuping County, Hebei Province, was killed by the Japanese in 1942. When the Japanese advanced to near Liuzhou, the railway station there was crowded with refugees and their goods. In April 1944, the Japanese started their "Operation Number One."
