Economic and Cultural Development in Ethnic Minority Areas
The CPC and the Chinese government have been promoting economic development as a central pillar of their ethnic strategy, especially since the initiation of reform and opening up in the late 1970s. Support for ethnic cultural programs has been ongoing as part of a larger effort to build a strong and enduring national culture based on socialist values. A slew of special policies and measures are in place to bolster economic and cultural development in ethnic minority areas in response to their actual needs. Substantial financial, material and human resources have been committed to this purpose. Han communities with higher levels of development have been mobilized to lend a hand. Additional assistance to Tibet and Xinjiang aims to drive development so as to achieve prosperity for all.
