Wen Huazhi is one of the few delegates of National People’s Congress who was born in 1980s. She is known for her heroic behavior during a car accident that happened in Yanan, Northwest China’s Shaanxi province. On April 28, 2005, a driver of a large van suddenly changed its route to overtake the other vehicle, which led to a head-on collision with a bus loaded with a team of tourists with Wen as the tour guide. Six people were killed and fourteen others seriously injured. Although badly injured, Wen asked rescuers to save the others first, saying “I am the guide; I can take care of myself, please save the tourists first!” But a lack of timely treatment forced Wen to lose her left leg. Wen now studies tourism management in Xiangtan University in Central China’s Hunan province.
