This year, China has continued its strong momentum to fight corruption in all fields, yielding concrete results on the front.
According to official statistics, in the first three quarters of this year, disciplinary inspection and supervision authorities nationwide filed approximately 642,000 cases, including those involving officials at the ministerial and provincial level, an increase from last year's figures.
Peng Xinlin, a senior expert in integrity-building and anti-graft fields, noted that the increase demonstrates the country's persistent efforts to strengthen anti-corruption campaigns and improve anti-corruption effectiveness, which is a clear signal to the society that the strong momentum to fight corruption will not slacken.
Since the start of 2024, disciplinary inspection and supervision agencies nationwide have investigated and handled approximately 596,000 matters related to misconduct and corruption that directly affect people's livelihoods.
As a result, about 462,000 individuals have received due punishment, with 15,000 transferred to procuratorial organs for further investigation and prosecution.
Song Wei, another expert in the anti-graft field, said corruption related to education, medical care, pensions, social security, law enforcement and justice affects people's everyday interests, which they care about most.
Therefore, the actual results of the anti-graft fight at the grassroots have a direct relevance to people's sense of gain, happiness and security and have a profound impact on the overall fight against corruption, Song added.
Combating bribery is a major focus of China's anti-corruption campaign. To address the issue in a holistic manner, China has redoubled its coordinated efforts to enforce law-based penalties for bribe-takers and bribe-givers.
In particular, since the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC) in 2022, a series of relevant institutional measures, such as bribery law revisions and coordinated penalty mechanisms, have been further introduced to combat both bribe-taking and bribe-giving.
Official statistics show that in the first three quarters of this year, relevant cases filed by disciplinary inspection and supervision organs nationwide involved about 19,000 bribe-givers, with 2,972 transferred to procuratorial organs for further investigation and prosecution.
"The encroachment of bribe-givers has become one of the main contributors to the rise of corruption," said Song, adding that the comprehensive anti-corruption fight can be more efficient only by tackling both bribe-giving and bribe-taking.
Thanks to the comprehensive efforts, the past year witnessed a number of corrupt individuals in various fields, ranging from finance, energy, tobacco, medicine, sports, and infrastructure projects, brought to justice and held accountable.
Experts believe that the achievements are a testament to the country's whole-process management of corruption risks and its ever-improving efficiency for anti-graft governance in key areas and key links.
