On November 8, in honor of the city’s fourth Garbage Reduction Day, Dongxiao Street in Luohu District, Shenzhen, collaborated with Dushu Community to host a themed waste-reduction event.
Volunteers and residents participated in a community cleanup, where they were educated on waste sorting and sustainable habits like minimizing single-use items. Activities included games that taught eco-friendly practices, and biodegradable bags were distributed to promote plastic reduction. Meanwhile, Caopu East Community hosted an awareness drive, encouraging residents and local businesses to adopt sustainable practices.
Throughout the day, community leaders and waste-sorting volunteers organized events to teach residents effective ways to minimize waste. Residents learned the benefits of carrying reusable bags, reducing disposable utensils, and conserving resources at home. A team also visited over 40 restaurants, distributing guidelines and posters encouraging waste sorting and responsible disposal of kitchen waste. Businesses were encouraged to support the “Clean Plate” campaign, which minimizes food waste, and to display posters promoting sustainability.
Going forward, Dongxiao Subdistrict aims to integrate waste reduction activities into community events, enhancing residents' knowledge on waste classification and encouraging a low-carbon lifestyle. By incorporating eco-friendly practices into daily routines, the district is working towards a more sustainable future.
Dongxiao Subdistrict plans to further integrate waste reduction activities into community programs to foster long-term eco-conscious habits citywide.
