China has officially set up the first batch of five national parks —Sanjiangyuan National Park, Giant Panda National Park, Northeast China Tiger and Leopard National Park, Hainan Tropical Rainforest National Park, and Wuyi Mountain National Park. The country has placed 74% of the key state-protected wildlife species and 65% of higher plant communities under effective protection. It's one of the 17 mega biodiversity countries in the world, covering almost all types of ecosystems.
